This was fun to do

Sennheiser HD 25 DJ headphones Every company hopes that its next big thing will at least sell well. If they’re lucky they’ll be a best seller. But the ultimate wish is that their product will become so hallowed and adored that it becomes an industry standard. And that’s exactly what the Sennheiser HD 25 DJ headphones are, which is why they’re part of The Worxlab project.

IN BITS

I had a lot of fun putting this together. Some time ago I fully disassembled my pair of Adidas HD 25s and drew every part as one big flat projection. But as detailed as it is, it feels detached from being a pair of headphones and more like an IKEA flat pack.

The 7 Inch Colour version. The stairs lead to the not in any way creepy brightly lit Worxattic.
Sennheiser HD 25 headphones 12 inch art print
The 12 Inch Dark version. Probably my favourite this time around.

I knew this print had to look like the HD 25s, but I also wanted to show the fully rebuildable nature. Now there’s only so much you can show in a 7″ and 12″ print so for this reason these show the view that the crowd sees, Bolier Room or otherwise.

The 7″ is approximately 55% scale and the 12″ is at full size. The A2 however is where the fun happens.

A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE

A single pair of Sennheiser HD 25s are lost on an A2 sheet. Like other drawings I’ve done, I could have completed a traditional orthographic front, side, and top view, and most likely will in time. But for this first edition, I was keen to create a more interesting exploded view.

And that’s what I’ve done. Every part is shown and anatomically correct. Even the headphone cable lengths are accurate. I dispensed with the idea of showing the whole cable and simply cut it off as per standard drawing conventions. Don’t worry — no Sennheiser HD 25s were injured in the process of creating these illustrations. And even if they were, it’s all replaceable. Nice.
