HELLO THERE.

Mark Settle Worxlab DJ prints limited edition DJ mixer turntable giclee fine art

And happy New Year to you lovely people.

I should start with an introduction — I’m Mark Settle and The Worxlab is where I draw and print.

And despite terrorising the DJ industry for two decades via skratchworx and DJWORX, this is the first newsletter I’ve ever sent.

I never felt the need before, and said all I needed to in my scribblings on DJWORX. Even my socials were little more than a pointer to the site.

But things are different now. I don’t write on a DJ site. Or even write. Or DJ. At all.

But I do want to write. I should really, which I assume is why you took the time to sign up in the first place. I know I don’t want to use social media. I prefer a direct connection and know it'll hit your inbox rather than be at the whim of an every-changing algorithm..

I have no formal plan about what to do with this. I’ll play it by ear. It'll most likely be a monthly thing because schedules are good for everyone.

I just thought I’d stick my head around the door and say hi.

The last thing I drew, Drew

While the bulk of what I do is individual units, I do have plans for full setups. So I need to build a library of bits for people to choose their setups from.

I've already got a few carts and headshells drawn up. But former skratchworx OG Drew (now designing the future at AlphaTheta) told me that the Radio Shack version of the legendary Stanton 500AL was the weekend go-to for many DJs in the USA.

And I managed to track down some NOS units on eBay. And I figured it would be fun to recreate the whole package, complete with dodgy typography, halftone dots, and blister pack. It might make a nice limited run 3D poster.

A recommendation and a revelation

My daughter (who is now 31 — skratchworx fans will feel old now) bought me "Honest" by Nick Cohen for Christmas. This was devoured in double quick time, and has had a profound effect on what I'm doing now and in the future.

If you worked or indeed are working in advertising, I thoroughly recommend this.
